La Citadelle
rue Xavier Bauer90000 BELFORT
The Citadel, built in successive stages from the Middle Ages to the end of the 19th century, served as an "entrenched camp" for the people of Belfort during the 1870 war. Thanks to the Citadel, the city's valiant defenders were able to hold off the siege and maintain their resistance. Bartholdi made it even more famous with his impressive lion sculpture. A place steeped in history that leaves no one indifferent.
Free admission except for the History Museum and the Lion Terrace.
