It was around the middle of the 19th century that the Luxeuil lace was really born, inspired by Venice, Milan and Bruges. Very quickly, "Luxeuil" was distinguished by the variety of the pieces produced and by the originality of the motifs. The particular fame of the Luxeuil lace is essentially due to the enormous diffusion that it knew under the Second Empire. The day Napoleon III accompanied his wife on a visit to Luxeuil, the small town in the Franche-Comté region offered the empress a parasol made using its own technique. Until the Second World War, embroidery employed dozens, if not hundreds, of workers in the town and the surrounding villages.

In the past, lace was the town's trademark. To preserve its memory and know-how, the lacemakers make it a point of honour to welcome visitors and enthusiasts. The lacemakers of the Conservatory welcome you with pleasure to share this artistic technique.

Discover the lacemakers at work and exhibit their needlework and original creations. Practice of lace and initiation and improvement courses.
