CHALOTS
28 D 8388340 GIRMONT VAL D AJOL
A typical part of the local heritage, the chalot (or chello in Vosges patois) is the farm's annex, used to preserve food, grain and alcohol such as Kirsch. Built of wood and covered by a "lava" roof, it can be dismantled using a fully pegged assembly technique. Nearly 325 chalots have been listed in 7 communes, including Le Val-d'Ajol, Girmont-Val-d'Ajol and Plombières-les-Bains in the Vosges, as well as communes in Haute-Saône.
