Whether flanked by rocky cliffs, at the heart of a dense forest, or in the hollow of a valley: water has a special place in the Vosges Mountains. Take the time to admire the sparkling lakes in summer and the incredible ice sculptures in winter. Each season has its state.
Take me to the river ... and the lake
Lakes & ponds: a thousand shades of water
Lac Blanc, Lac Noir, Lac Vert lakes, Hanau and Donnenbach ponds: in the Vosges Mountains, the lakes cover the colour spectrum from grey to green. In summer, jump in for a swim. In winter, observe the ice-covered surface surrounded by snow or mist. But the best way to explore our lakes is to lace up your walking shoes and set off for a hike along the banks.
Rivers crossing borders
Two rivers take their source in the Vosges Mountains. The Moselle River starts in Bussang and flows for 560 km through Lorraine, Luxembourg, and Germany. There’s also the Saar River, born at the foot of the Donon before crossing through both northeast France and Germany.
Chasing waterfalls!
Exploring the Vosges Mountains means visiting the many waterfalls of the range. See them in spring when the cascades flow the fullest, and be charmed by these majestic wonders!
Here for example, at the top of the Grand Ballon. With the Mont Blanc massif in the background!
Mists and clouds, when the veil rises...
When the Massif is covered in mist or lost in the clouds, the atmosphere becomes mysterious and the adventure all the more exciting!
The virtues of water
Celtic and Wattwiller : are two natural mineral waters that take their source in the Vosges Mountains. These naturally pure waters are served in the finest restaurants of France and Europe.
And of course, the pure mountain waters also flow through the spa centres of the range.
