Tips for hikers
So that you can keep on enjoying this exceptional nature for a long time to come, whether by bike, on foot or with snowshoes, stay naturally responsible!
- Check the weather before you go : the Vosges is a mountainous region, and the weather can change very quickly. Look at the weather forecast before leaving and dress accordingly, with a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses on a sunny day. On a cold or rainy day, dress in light layers rather than a thick sweater and don’t forget a lightweight, waterproof jacket. Wear suitable hiking shoes and leave any thin-soled shoes in your closet!
- If you hope to observe wildlife, try to keep the kids’ excitement to a minimum and keep your four-legged friends at bay – the animal kingdom likes peace and quiet!
- Be sure to bring water and a snack, for yourself and for your children!
- Never forget that while nature is beautiful, it's also fragile and must be respected. Don't leave any rubbish behind and stay on the marked trails. The mountains have very diverse plant life, and it’s up to all of us to protect it.
- Beware of ticks! After a hike along our trails, make sure you haven't been bitten. If you have, remove ticks with a special tick remover (sold in pharmacies) or with tweezers. Don’t apply any type of product and consult a doctor.
- Better safe than sorry: Always tell someone where you are going. In case of a problem, call 112: a free service for reaching emergency services 24/7 from any phone.
"1 day of walking, 8 days of health"
This historical motto of the Club Vosgien has never been truer. Do your body good and discover all their itineraries on our website. You can also sign up for a guided outing.
Hiking is an activity within everyone's reach and boasts numerous health benefits. If you need to get moving, if you have health problems, or if you are resuming physical activity, get in contact with a French Hiking Federation club with the Rando Santé® (health hiking) accreditation. Hiking is an activity that can even be prescribed by your doctor!
Health and safety above all!
Whether you're heading out a day trip or a multi-day trek, hiking takes some preparation.
The Vosges Mountains are indeed a mountain destination, with all the magic and dangers that come with it. Stay alert, and in case of emergency, call 112 from any mobile phone. The mountain police of Honrod (+33 (0)3 89 77 14 22) or Xonrupt-Longemer (+33 (0)3 29 63 02 90) are here to help!
And in the current pandemic situation, try to choose trails that are less crowded, keep a safe distance from other hikers, and remember to bring a mask and hand sanitizer. And now, hit the trail, breathe in the fresh air, and relax in nature !
